Buddy had his amputation surgery and we brought him home today. The surgery went really well. They found severe scarring around the nerve tissue as they suspected, and that’s what was causing his pain after the accident. They were able to cut the nerves as high up as possible but he may continue to feel that for the next two weeks, but then it should go away.
We had looked at post-op pictures and read a lot of other blogs on this site to prepare ourselves for picking up Buddy today. That definitely helped! And I’m proud of myself that I didn’t even cry when we picked him up. He’s mostly been sleeping all day because he’s still pretty drugged up. But we just took him to the park that’s a block from our house and he did awesome! He’s already walking so well because he’s had to walk on three legs for the past two weeks. I’m so proud of our boy! We are also extremely thankful for the Webmaster RuffWear harness. That thing is seriously life changing in this situation. Buddy is able to get up and down 3 flights of stairs to our apartment with the use of that, it’s amazing!!

wow, buddy looks great!! already up and around – don’t let him get too tuckered out!!! oh, and you might want to watch the harness around his stitches/staples – we used an opened up cloth totebag for the first couple of days… glad to hear he’s doing so well.

Thanks! He’s doing great!! We have the t-shirt on him to help protect the incision. And amazingly, he doesn’t need that much support from the harness on the stairs. I knew he would amaze me 🙂
OK, I don’t know how you didn’t cry. I am crying. You are a strong mama!
Glad Buds is doing well, but I still feel sad.
love you guys.
